ALABAMA Crime Prevention Officer James Orr of the Alexander City Police Department is a certified AARP Driver Safety Program Instructor and teaches an eight-hour course several times throughout the year at community locations such as banks, churches, and senior citizen centers. Officer Orr supplements the course with a video titled, "Going Through the Years," which addresses older pedestrian safety. In addition to the Driver Safety Program, Officer Orr places literature and pamphlets from AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and NHTSA at senior citizen centers concerning alternative transportation and driver self-assessment. He also teaches senior citizen groups the "Operation Lifesavers Course" concerning railroad-crossing safety. Officer Orr became involved in the program after two senior citizen pedestrians were struck and fatally injured by two separate trains in Alexander City. Contact: Officer James Orr |
