The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) CIREN team is composed of an interdisciplinary team of engineers, physicians, and technical staff. Led by Frank Pintar, PhD, the PI and engineering leadership have worked with many of the clinicians on the team for over twenty years. The technical staff is a highly trained and experienced crew with specific skills in crash reconstruction, research project management, complex engineering computations, and experimental design. The experimental test facilities consist of a mechanical component lab, Servo-Sled lab, and full-scale vehicle crash lab to conduct injury biomechanics research. With over 500 publications and reports, the MCW laboratories and team have been assisting the NHTSA to understand fundamental biomechanics of trauma principles since 1987. Based in the Department of Neurosurgery, the MCW team has special interests in head/brain and spinal column/cord trauma.
