The (UAB) CIREN Center is within UAB University Hospital, the only American College of Surgeons’ Verified Level I trauma center in the state. The trauma center evaluates over 3000 patients annually from a seven county primary catchment area and also serves as a referral center for the severely injured throughout the state of Alabama, Mississippi and the panhandle of Florida. The UAB CIREN team is led by Dr. Donald Reiff and boasts a unique collaboration with Dr. Gerald McGwin, an epidemiologist with extensive expertise in injury epidemiology. The research interests of the team focus on side-impact airbags, pelvic fractures, injured elderly motor vehicle occupants and the epidemiological and statistical methodology as it relates to motor vehicle research. |
