Visioning Meeting Crib Sheet

Running time What You Do What You Say
0-5 Greet and meet the people at your table. Have the people at the table introduce themselves briefly. Thank you for coming. Please take a seat. My name is _____ and I’ll be this group’s discussion facilitator. We’ll be getting started in just a few moments.
5-7 State the rules of brainstorming — point to cards on table. All ideas are valid, no discussion of ideas, no judgments, pro or con, please use short phrases.
7-10 Pose question to group. Why should people use safety belts? Write five reasons on a card.
10-12 Work quietly. List all of the reasons why you believe people should use safety restraints.
12-22 Record responses on newsprint. Starting here, go around the table and each give one answer, then 2nd, etc.
22-25 Pose question to group. Why don’t people use safety belts?
25-27 Work quietly. List all of the reasons why you believe people do not use safety restraints.
27-35 Record responses on newsprint. Repeat going around the table for responses.
35-36 Start Nominal Group Process. Now we are going to list, rank and prioritize ideas as a community.
36-37 State Nominal Group Technique question. Specifically, what can be done to increase the use of safety belts and improve occupant safety in this community? Write down 3-5 ideas.
37-40 Work quietly.
40-50 Record answers on newsprint. Letter (A,B,C) the responses. Let’s go around the table again, one idea per person at a time.
50-60 Serial discussion of ideas. Let’s make certain we all understand what each of the ideas mean and see if any are similar.
60-70 First preliminary vote—distribute the voting cards. Place the letter of the idea you think is most important next to the number 5 and rank your top five items in descending order.
70-75 Collect the cards and have someone read them to you while you total the score. Here are our top five, which we’ll share with the community.
75-80 Bring your top five on an index card to the common meeting area. Refreshment Break for Participants.
80-85 Each group will be called upon to state their top five in front of the big group. Read your list and answer any questions.
85-90 Distribute sticker dots. Place your dots on the master list which you feel are most important. You may place all of your dots on one idea or break them up.
90 Review results. Thank you for sharing your ideas. We will be getting back to you about the options being generated.
