V. Post-trip Inspection

  1. Finally, when the route is finished, conduct a post-trip inspection of the bus
  2. What should you look for as you walk through the school bus? (Any problems with the bus; damage or vandalism; articles left on the bus; open windows and doors; sleeping students.)
  3. Let’s look at the post-trip inspection checklist at the end of Handout #3
  4. Look under the bus and walk around the bus, both inside and outside
    1. Check for problems with the bus
      1. Report any problems to maintenance
    2. Damage or vandalism
      1. Report any damage to your supervisor
    3. Articles left on the bus
      1. Collect them and turn them in
    4. Open windows and doors
      1. Close them
    5. Sleeping students
      1. Local procedures
    6. In winter, icy steps
      1. Spray with de-icer
  5. Make sure that your bus is ready to go for the next trip
    1. Mirrors are adjusted
    2. Wheelchair tie-downs are in order
  6. Secure the bus
  7. Are there any questions about the post-trip inspection?
