On-going Public Information and Education

An on-going public information and education campaign is needed to assure the motoring public that the red light running camera enforcement system is being operated in the most effective, efficient, and fair manner possible. Public information and education efforts begin before installation but do not end when the system is fully operational.

The on-going educational program should be designed to combat red light running, in general, as well as to provide information related to the operation of the red light camera equipment. Where possible, the on-going public information and education program should be developed and delivered in a way so as to address any specific populations or conditions that have been identified as contributing extensively to the red light running problem.

The on-going public information and education program should use various media, including the broadcast media, as appropriate. The agency should monitor the effectiveness of the educational program in order to achieve maximum effectiveness and public support for the red light camera program.
