The Hastings, Nebraska Police Department conducts safety belt presentations to Hastings Good Samaritan Retirement Village senior citizen groups upon request by various social groups. The Village consists of approximately 2,000 senior citizen residents. The Community Service Office conducts approximately 6 to 10 presentations per year. The Community Service Officer provides demonstrations, lectures and videos on motor vehicle occupant safety relevant to older drivers. The officer addresses child safety seat issues and provides the senior citizens information on how to safely secure children in child safety seats. The Police Department offers these programs at the request of the citizens. Information used for the program is obtained from NHTSA and the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.

In addition to occupant safety pro-grams and the NHTSA Standardized Child Passenger Safety Training Program, the police department provides meeting space for the AARP Driver Safety Program classes. An officer from the department is on hand at the classes to answer questions and provide information relevant to the community and the police department.
