Physicians are permitted to report to the Department of Public Safety any patient whom they have reasonable cause to believe is incapable of safely operating a motor vehicle. Any physician reporting in good faith and without malicious intent shall have immunity from civil liability that might otherwise be incurred. By statute the physician has full immunity. The driver is notified in writing of the referral and required to appear for an interview at the Department. The Department also requires a current medical evaluation from a qualified practitioner.
