U.S. DOT Reboots NHTSA.gov, Providing Valuable New Auto and Road Safety Features For Consumer

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched a reboot of www.nhtsa.gov, building new tools for consumers to improve safety on the roads and in their cars.  The federal website is a trusted resource for safety information on vehicles, passengers, pedestrians and bicyclists.  For more than four decades, NHTSA has served as the key federal agency helping people to drive, ride, and walk safely.

“NHTSA provides important time-sensitive safety information on a daily basis to thousands of consumers,” said U.S Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.  “It is critical that the information is readily accessible and is user friendly.  For example, the new vehicle look up tool allowes consumers to retrieve information on open recalls and crash test ratings in seconds.”

NHTSA.gov provides consumers with information on the latest vehicle technologies, crash test ratings, recalls, car seats, tires and safety tips for reducing risky driving behaviors.  The new site adds improved navigation, functionality and search tools to streamline the user experience.  Consumers can now instantly retrieve information on recalls, crash test ratings and safety updates related to their specific vehicle by entering their Vehicle Identification Number  (VIN)  or, the year, make and model of their vehicle.

“Over the past decade, consumers have discovered NHTSA.gov and helped a small federal safety agency grow into a household brand,” said NHTSA Administrator, Dr. Mark Rosekind.  “The newly redesigned website enhances the user experience, while continuing to deliver important safety information the public relies on for keeping their vehicles and loved ones safe.”

The new NHTSA.gov consolidates all of its content into one cohesive site, which was previously spread across multiple websites, including safercar.gov.  Consumers can now access the site anywhere from any device, whether it’s a smart phone, tablet, or laptop.  The public is encouraged to visit the site and explore the new features offered.
