Trends in Risky Driving – First Nine Months of 2020

NHTSA has announced a webinar to discuss ongoing dangerous driving trends and the unique traffic safety conditions during the first nine months of 2020. They include emptier roads, faster speeds, increased driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and an increased fatality rate.

NHTSA will release preliminary statistics of the emerging trends as well as the regions in the country experiencing the greatest increase in traffic fatalities. NHTSA will also discuss its efforts to develop effective countermeasures in partnership with researchers, traffic safety advocates, state transportation officials, and law enforcement.

This webinar, on January 12 at 1 p.m. ET, will provide an overview of these issues. Speakers will include:
   • James Owens, NHTSA Deputy Administrator
   • Nanda Srinivasan, NHTSA Associate Administrator for Research and Program Development
   • Chou-Lin Chen, NHTSA Associate Administrator for National Center for Statistics and Analysis
   • Jamie Pfister, NHTSA Associate Administrator for Regional Operations and Program Delivery

Additional virtual workshops with stakeholders will take place at the end of January and in early February.
