NHTSA Announces MY2021 Vehicles for NCAP Crashworthiness and ADAS Testing
October 14, 2020 | Washington, DC
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today announced the Model Year 2021 vehicles that will be tested by the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
NCAP will test 45 Model Year 2021 vehicles for crashworthiness, as well as the Model Year 2020 Tesla Model Y. These vehicles represent approximately 89% of the new vehicle fleet.
NHTSA will also evaluate advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in 19 additional vehicles. The technologies that will be evaluated are lane departure warning, forward collision warning, crash imminent braking, and dynamic brake support.
NCAP tests new vehicles and rates them on how well they protect occupants in frontal and side crashes and resist rolling over in single-vehicle crashes. Vehicles are assigned one to five stars, with five stars being the highest safety rating.
