Jason Levine

Director of the Office of Governmental Affairs, Policy and Strategic Planning

Jason Levine, NHTSA’s Director of Governmental Affairs, Policy and Strategic Planning, leads NHTSA’s Office of Governmental Affairs. He works closely with the Office of the Secretary of Transportation and other modal leadership to ensure strategic alignment, coordination and focus on transportation safety priorities.

Before joining NHTSA, Levine was the executive director of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission where he was the chief operating manager responsible for programmatic, operational, and administrative functions, including CPSC’s enforcement operations, regulatory portfolio, hazard identification efforts, and stakeholder outreach. Previously he served as the executive director of the Center for Auto Safety where he directed the national non-profit’s overall federal strategy, managed its operations and communications, and oversaw its budget.

Levine has held leadership roles in several federal agencies, including as director of the congressional, legislative, and intergovernmental affairs office at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management; chief of staff and director of the legislative affairs office at the CPSC; as well as in an advisory capacity to the assistant secretary for aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Levine began his federal career as chief counsel to a commissioner of the Federal Election Commission. Before joining public service, he worked as an attorney in private practice in Washington, DC.

Levine graduated from Northwestern University and has a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
