Consumer Alert: NHTSA Launches New Website Feature for Critical Safety Recalls

Helps to identify vehicles with “do not drive” or fire risk recalls

| Washington, DC

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is providing a new tool to vehicle owners to help them quickly identify if their vehicle has an urgent safety recall where the vehicle should not be driven or parked inside until fixed.

Starting today, if an owner visits NHTSA.gov/Recalls and searches for their vehicle, a red box will display at the top of the page if their vehicle has an open “do not drive” or a fire risk recall.

NHTSA is adding this feature to alert vehicle owners to the urgency of these recalls, including taking preventative actions until the recall repair is completed.

This eye-catching display comes as a number of fire-related recalls have been issued recently.

It’s easy to check for open recalls by visiting NHTSA.gov/Recalls and entering a VIN number or by downloading the SaferCar app. All recall repairs are free at an authorized dealership.
