EVENT RECORDING

Join the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as we discuss coordinated efforts nationwide to combat alcohol- and drug-impaired driving in the weeks leading up to and including Labor Day weekend. The August/Labor Day Impaired Driving High-Visibility Enforcement Kickoff press event will be a virtual event and livestreamed.

Speakers will include:

  • Dr. Steven Cliff, NHTSA Administrator;
  • Meghan Carter, Field Operations Director, MADD;
  • Sheriff John Idleburg from Lake County, IL and National Sheriffs’ Association;
  • Jill Kiefer, Executive Director, TEAM Coalition; and,
  • Darrin Grondel, VP, Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility.

NHTSA’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, If You Feel Different, You Drive Different, Drive High, Get a DUI and Ride Sober or Get Pulled Over campaigns will begin on August 17 and run through September 5. Alcohol-impaired traffic fatalities have increased over the past few years, as have other dangerous behaviors, as will be noted with the release of new 2022 first quarter fatality numbers. It is more imperative than ever for NHTSA, law enforcement, and safety stakeholders to work together to address this trend.

We are committed to providing equal access to this event for all participants. Closed captioning will be available. People with disabilities who need additional accommodations should send a request to NHTSA.Communication@dot.gov no later than August 16.
