National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

Public safety telecommunicators receive 240 million 911 calls each year, each one requiring specialized knowledge and a calm, collected response – including the millions of calls for traffic crashes. The National 911 Program, housed in NHTSA’s Office of Emergency Medical Services, not only provides people with help over the phone, but also helps getting the correct resources to the location of the emergency. 

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, held annually during the second week of April, we honor the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community and thank them for dedicating their lives to serving the public. 

This year’s celebration starts April 14 and runs through April 20. National 911 organizations and federal agencies are all recognizing the role of 911 with a variety of ideas, like 911 Tree of Life, CISA, and sending messages on social media.
