Submission of Confidential Business Information

NHTSA is developing an online portal for receiving requests for confidential treatment. This portal will allow users to upload files required for Part 512 requests for confidential treatment in one centralized location. Additionally, the online portal will allow users to view their requests previously submitted through the portal and receive related communications from NHTSA.

A pilot of the online portal is ongoing. Following the pilot, NHTSA will provide access to the portal for all entities submitting requests for confidential treatment to the agency.

NHTSA is currently treating electronic submission as an acceptable method for submitting confidential business information to the agency under 49 C.F.R. Part 512. This includes requests for confidential treatment that are submitted to the agency via NHTSA’s new online confidential business information portal.
